Andrew has been awarded first place in the inaugural River City Brass Composition Competition for 2022 for his work Resilience. The work celebrates the band’s short but rich history, with a particular focus on the determination it has shown, like so many bands around the world, to continue its tradition of musical excellence despite the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic that led to an extended hiatus in music making.
The competition received some 67 entries from 14 countries. The committee, consisting of five members, selected four pieces to serve as finalists. The other finalists were Katerina Horka, Jared McCunnie, and Marcus Venables.
The pieces by the finalists were performed by River City Brass in front of its audiences during our April its May shows. The audience members and band members then voted on their favorite piece.
